Introduction
In July, 1997 George Pappas and George Rhigas,
founders of P&R Electrical Wholesalers decided that
the time was right to hand over the reigns of their
business to the next generation of P&R, their sons.
In just two decades the Georges had taken P&R from
a humble single store operation in Adelaide to one of
the largest independent electrical wholesale networks
in the country.
History
The two founders brought together complementing
talents to this new business. George Pappas brought
with him the experience of almost twenty years in the
area of electrical installation and contracting while
George Rhigas had already forged a successful career
as an international importer before undertaking a role
with a national wholesale group in Australia. As a successful
contractor operating in the small Adelaide market it
wasn’t long before George Pappas crossed paths
with, George Rhigas, who by now had established a reputation
as Adelaide’s most dynamic wholesale manager.
George Rhigas’ rise to success seemed to compliment
his mow good friend and customer George Pappas who was
enjoying similar success on the other side of the counter.
On the 28 of February ‘1977 the
doors of P&R Electrical Wholesalers where opened.
P&R’s goals were hopeful the proprietors were
confident but never cocky. They decided from the onset
that the focus would be on customer service, a philosophy
still maintained and one which has Influenced the development
of every component in the business to this day. Innovative
service concepts such as weekend trading and large warehouse
facilities offering customers the convenience of a “drive
thru” service where Introduced and clearly set
P&R apart from Its competitors. In its first year
of trading. P&R had turned over a staggering 1.6
million, It had paid back all of its borrowings and
had secured its future In the Australian electrical
market.
The
Business
Today P&R is a company with an expansive branch
network that extends well beyond its humble origins
in South Australia. The warehousing and distribution
of electrical product represents the core of P&R’s
activities. With over 30,000 products on offer the business
has expanded into many diverse commercial areas and
continues to develop its resources to best service these
and future markets.
